Italian Parmesan Bread for Bread Machine

"I've been making this bread for years without measuring, and finally decided to write it down. My most requested bread from my bread-lovin' son. Makes the house smell divine!! You can easily increase the amounts of seasonings to your taste. (NOTE: Many people seem to be needing to add extra water, so I'm adding an adjustment to the recipe.)"

  1. So good!! I used my bread machine to make the dough and then rolled into a long loaf. After rising (about 45 min.) I sprinkled with olive oil, garlic salt and additional parmesan cheese. I baked at 375 degrees until golden brown. The flavor of this bread is mild and the seasoning is not overwhelming. This was really good dipped into olive oil mixed with a bread seasoning mix. My family of five loved it!!!

  2. Delicious bread! You will not be disappointed!I was ready to chuck my bread machine because my last dozen or so attempts at breadmaking were less than satisfactory. I really didn't have high hopes for this recipe, especially after it dawned on me that the recipe called for neither oil nor sugar. This recipe made the most beautiful loaf of bread I've ever made! Tall, golden brown and DELICIOUS! My husband and nephew ate almost the entire loaf in one sitting. Thanks for the great recipe. This is going to be my go to recipe from now on.

  3. Really turned out nice. I subbed Gouda cheese and it was great. That was the only change I made. It's super easy to Make and easy to modify. I will make again soon.

  4. Very nice and light bread. I only had 1/3 tsp Italian seasoning so I added the balance in thyme and rosemary---fantastic! I'll be sharing with a gal pal for lunch, can't to see what she thinks.

  5. Oh gosh, this could very well be my new favourite sandwich bread!! I made a few adjustments: I used 1 3/4 cups of water total, added a couple teaspoons of wheat gluten (out of habit), doubled the Italian seasoning, and reduced the salt to about a teaspoon. Next time I may add a little more parmesan, but otherwise it was great!! I used the dough setting, then split the dough into two loaves, baked at 375 for about 30-35 minutes (gotta keep an eye on it) and ended up with two BIG loaves. Brushed them with a little oil before baking, but next time I'll sprinkle on some extra Italian seasoning and parmesan on top as well. It was delicious, great texture, great crust, and just enough herb-y goodness without being overpowering. I'll definitely make this again. Thank you!

Tweaks

  1. Added a tablespoon of Italian seasoning and garlic powder instead of the teaspoon recipe called for.

  2. GREAT RECIPE! I used 1 3/4 cups water, doubled the parmesan and seasoning and added 3 fat cloves pressed garlic (we love garlic). Also switched out one of the cups of flour with white whole wheat flour. Came out perfect. I set my bread machine (Emeril's) for 2 lbs, whole wheat and medium crust. Next time I think I will use 1 1/2 cups white whole wheat and 2 1/2 cups bread flour. Served cut into big chunks as a change of pace to dinner rolls for Sunday dinner. Family loved it! Would be great cut into smaller chunks with cheese fondue or spinach dip. Can't believe there's no sugar or oil! Thanks!

  3. This bread turned out really good! I just took it out of the bread machine. I plan to pair it up with the lasagna I have in the crockpot for dinner. I didn't use the garlic powder because I was afraid it would not give the flavor I was looking for, I grated 3 large cloves of garlic instead. I also added a tbsp of italian seasoning rather than a teaspoon. Thanks for the recipe!

  4. HEELLLLLLOOO! This bread was AWESOME! I ended up needing a little more water than listed (about 2 cups total), but it was a very hot, dry day when I baked it. I also used 1/2 tsp of garlic powder and 1/2 tsp of onion powder instead of a full teaspoon of garlic. Otherwise, I stuck to the recipe, and Oh - I did it in the oven since I have no bread machine. We had it with grilled steak, and man was it good! Thanks for a GREAT recipe! It's a keeper!
