Jivin' California Turkey Roller

""A juicy turkey burger with a hint of red bell peppers, garlic and onions, topped with with fresh spinach, ripe red tomatoes and alfalfa sprouts and drizzled with a special avocado-artichoke dressing. Served on two slices of toasted sourdough bread, it's a burger any Californian could groove on. And that ain't no jive!" • Make dressing: combine all ingredients in a blender or food processor and process until smooth, but not too smooth (a few chunks are nice).
  • Make burgers: Combine all ingredients and form 4-8 patties (depending on what size you want).
  • Grill patties on outdoor grill, or pan-fry them if you don't have a grill.

  1. Looks yummy! I will make this week! Does the calorie count exclude the bread? thanks!

  2. I'm not terribly fond of avacado so I didn't expect to like this as much as I did, but it was love at first bite! The turkey burger was moist and I loved the loads of garlic. I found myself piling on more dressing, it was so good! And the sourdough bread was a terrific choice. I totally forgot to write down the condiments on my grocery list so I just added some green leaf lettuce to the burger. Bravo for a great recipe! Made for ZWT3.

  3. Really flavoful. I prefer ground turkey breast anyway, so tend to sub it in place of beef when possible for a healthy alternative. That is the first part that drew me to this burger. I love the use of artichokes, red peppers and onions, sprouts and the cheeses too ( I used slightly more and a blend of both cheeses for the flavor). I agree with previous reviewers that the dressing makes a nice dip - especially with a corn chip. Nicely done JJ Rollers! ZWT3.

  4. I really enjoyed these! I will even admit it was my first time making turkey burgers, lol, DH was not sure about this whole thing, "A burger should be meat" I believe his words were. Well, he ate two of these so I guess they weren't too bad!! I did make a couple of substitutions. I used sour cream in place of the yogurt for the sauce and used a four cheese semolina for the bread. I really thought they came out wonderful. I cooked them on the grill, started them out on tin foil and then moved them to the grill racks. Thanks to you all, good luck with the ZWT!!

  5. My DH and I really enjoyed this burger, we both particularly enjoyed the avocado sauce....which is also great served as a dip with corn chips. I felt as far as burgers go this is a really healthy option. The only changes I would make would be to add chilli sauce to the meat pattie....that was the only thing that I thought needed spicing up a little. Reviewed for ZWT3 Burger Challenge.

<p>My husband and I live in Cambridge MA with our dog Archie. <br /> <br />I used to be a mediocre cook, with little interest in cooking ... then I joined Weight Watchers in Oct. 2006. I finally realized that to maintain my weight, I needed to find lots of extremely yummy, healthy foods that I enjoyed eating -- and the best way to do that is to learn to cook, and to learn to enjoy cooking. This web site has been 95% responsible for getting me there! <br /> <br />As of Oct. 2007, I am a lifetime member of Weight Watchers, having lost 70 pounds and weighing less than I've ever weighed as an adult. I owe a lot of it to the recipes I've found here! <br /> <br />Re: rating recipes -- I only give out five and four stars, and very occasionally three stars. I don't see any point in giving lower scores; I can't be sure a recipe has turned out badly because of something I've done. Besides, even if I don't like it, the next person might -- and if they see a one-star review, they'll never bother to try it. So I review the ones I've loved, and don't say anything about the ones that didn't work for me. <br /> <br />Hooray for vegetables! <br /> <br />. <br /> <br /> <br /><img src=http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/projects/200_PACpic.jpg border=0 alt=Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket /> <br /> <br /><img src=http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e347/Saturn6666/KiwiDutch/3chefstag1.jpg alt= /> <br /> <br /><img src=http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y53/DUCHESS13/Zaar%20World%20Tour%203/ZWT3-Participation.gif alt= /> <br /> <br /><img src=http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/Adopted1smp.jpg border=0 alt=Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket /> <br /><img src=http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/smPACp.jpg border=0 alt=Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket /> <br /><img src=http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/PAC08Main.jpg border=0 alt=Photobucket /></p>
