“This recipe comes from my mom and they are, hands down, the best fried green tomatoes. She makes these every summer with fresh tomatoes from her garden. My sister begs her to make them for her as soon as she sees tomatoes growing big and green on the vines. While most recipes call for breadcrumbs and oil, this one calls for flour and has you fry the tomatoes in butter, which helps give these an incredible flavor.”

Ingredients Nutrition

  1. Slice tomatoes into 1/3 inch slices.
  2. Evenly sprinkle both sides of each tomato with the sugar, salt, and pepper.
  3. Melt one stick of butter in a large pan over medium heat.
  4. Beat together the milk and eggs.
  5. Dip each tomato in flour then dip in the eggs. Dredge in the flour until thoroughly covered.
  6. Place tomatoes in the pan and cook over the medium heat until golden brown on one side (approximately 5-7 minutes). Flip and cook the other side until golden brown. As you fry the the tomatoes, add more butter as needed.
