“This cake was served to Lincoln and Douglas during one of the stops on their debate. It is from a very old calender style cookbook of cakes. The entry starts "This cake was served to these two gentlemen after the debate with some homemade wine on the veranda of the authors grandfather's home [Jacob J Oyler] in Freeport Ill. The cake was made especially for the occasion by his daughter Miss Caroline Oyler." The Ice Cream icing still has me puzzled. While the author included may frostings and icings, she did not include any ice cream frosting recipe. The only assumption I can make is that you simply use homemade ice cream to coat and it still has me puzzled.”
