Microwave Lemon Garlic Broccoli

"Fast fix up makes broccoli not the same old same old! My teens love this and will only eat broccoli like this or smothered in cheese- this is healthier! I created this recipe after the broccoli served at my fave Chinese place. The variety of ingredients apply to many regional cuisines such as Italian, Asian and SW."

Reviews

  1. I made this recipe almost exactly as specified and it got rave reviews from 3 broccoli HATERS! I did used minced garlic from a jar rather than either powder or mincing my own. I chose to use the optional red pepper flakes and I highly recommend them. This had SO much flavor and actually made me *want* to eat the broccoli (I'd bought it to be healthy, I honestly think that plain broccoli tastes like lawn clippings). It was so good I made it again the very next night but with only 1 tbsp of olive oil and a bit more lemon juice. Result was the same...delicious. Overall I suggest only 1 tbsp of oil and adding the red pepper flakes.

  2. I have made this several times and I could eat the whole batch by myself. We lost our recipe file box in the flooding after Hurricane Harvey and this is one of the recipes that was a must find to replace!

  3. We loved this. I did not change ingredients, only technique. Cooked the frozen broccoli in the microwave for six minutes; while it cooked I chopped the heated the evoo in a frying pan and added chopped garlic. When the microwave was done I added the broccoli to the oil and garlic with the red pepper flakes. I squeezed fresh lemon juice into the broccoli dish and tossed the hot sauteed mixture in it. The flavors were perfect together!

  4. I loved this dish, no garlic added added butter instead of olive oil i made it as a side for dinner and oh my delicious. It was so good i had to have a bowl for lunch..

  5. Made this exactly as directed. It was delicious! Bright flavor. Will always make broccoli like this now.

Tweaks

  1. My family liked this, thanks!

  2. Finally, I found the restaurant-quality broccoli seasoning I've been searching for with this recipe! Since I didn't have fresh garlic or red pepper flakes on hand, I substituted 1 1/2 teaspoon Lowry's Garlic Salt (coarse ground with parsley) and 1/2 teaspoon chili powder. Even with the substitutions, the flavor was wonderful!

  3. I used frozen broccoli and didn't add any water (frozen vegetables usually don't need any when microwaving). I also subbed a little smoked paprika for the red pepper flakes. A really nice way to jazz up a simple veggie. Thanks for posting! Made for ZWT6 Family Picks.

  4. I use this recipe constantly! It's so easy, my husband and I both love it, and it tastes great. I slightly reduce the amount of salt and garlic powder, and use a little less cayenne pepper instead of the red pepper flakes - we like it spicy!

  5. I thought this was super! Hubby only thought it ok (didn't like the garlic), but I'm going to make this again and again. I was going to substitute the olive oil for butter, but decided not to, and am glad I didn't. You know how when you try something and immediately you're like WOW!!! - that's how I felt.
