- Ready In:
- 2hrs 25mins
- Ingredients:
- 7
- Yields:
-
2 loaves
- Serves:
- 10-12
ingredients
- 2 cups warm water
- 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
- 1⁄4 cup oil
- 1⁄4 cup honey
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 egg
- 5 -6 cups all-purpose flour
directions
- Combine warm water, yeast, oil and honey in a large bowl, let sit for 5 minutes then add the salt and egg. Stir all together.
- Add the flour one cup at a time, stirring together after each cup. Around the 5th cup your dough will begin to come together pulling away from the sides of the bowl and forming a ball.
- Empty the dough onto a clean, floured surface and begin kneading the dough adding a little more flour as it becomes sticky. It should be slightly sticky. Knead for 3-5 minutes until smooth, firm and elastic.
- Set aside to rise until double.
- Divide dough into 2 loaves or 1 loaf and 12 rolls or all rolls if you like. Place in well greased loaf pan or rolls on a greased cookie sheet.
- Preheat oven to 375°F
- Set aside to rise until almost double once more.
- Bake loaves for 25-30 minutes, or rolls for 15 minutes. They should be golden brown on top and bottom when done.

Let me just start by saying I have NEVER made homemade bread before and I was very apprehensive. I've tried to use yeast in the past and had no success, but I was eager to try again. I looked at several recipes for homemade bread online, and this one seemed the most foolproof (and had the BEST reviews!). I made one loaf and 12 rolls and they turned out PERFECT. I seriously cannot get over it. I wanted to call everyone I knew and tell them.

I did take a few notes from reviews on this recipe and on other websites I visited. Namely, I warmed the bowl before adding the water & yeast by pouring in hot water and then pouring it out. Then I combined only the water and yeast (and made sure it was completely mixed) before adding the oil and honey. And, thanks to a tip from one of the other reviewers, I put a pot of boiled water in the oven along with the dough while it was rising, and it only took about 45 minutes for it to rise.

Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. It's so delicious, and I cannot wait to make it again!

I must say this recipe was on point!!! I was so nervous but it came out so moist and delicious.. my bread was fluffy and melted in my mouth. I did use 6 cups of flower and 2 packets of yeast and I kneaded the dough for almost 10 minutes.. I used the boiling water in a pot and put it in oven to help my bread ruse and it worked great.. will be making this for thanksgiving and forever on and making it sweat it tasty..

I would give you 10 stars for this recipe! MY Family LOVES this bread. I have always wanted to give home made bread a try. But all I would see is these bread recipe made with a bread machine "I don't have one" So I went searching and found this recipe. I have made it twice since I found it. The first day I made it the 2 loaves were gone in 1 day by 3 of us. LOL I couldn't keep my girls from it. Next day my DD emails me from work and asks that I make it again. I could I not when it was so good and easy :) Now.......mind you, I told them to stay away from 1 loaf cuz I want to use it for another recipe, they complied with grinding teeth LOL. This weekend instead of loaves I am going to make dinner rolls. Wow...so that means I will have made this recipe 3 times in 1 week. See how good this recipe is? Thank you so much for posting this recipe and I will make a zillion times for sure :)

I just got this recipe 3 days ago and I have made it three times. Once I made bread, once rolls and today I made cinnamon bread and all 3 times it turned out great! Easy to make and the only thing I did different was put a pan of boiling water on the bottom of the oven and it rose within 1/2 hour. Best recipe ever!!!!

I'm out of high school and living at home so I do a lot of cooking for my family. I love to cook, for me it is both relaxing and fun, especially when there are no time limits! I started baking when I was around 9. I began with making bread then I gradually went on to making meals.
Besides cooking and baking I love to knit, paint, sew, and study languages my favorite being Arabic which maybe someday I will actually be able to speak.
Most of the recipes I post are family favorites or at least my favorites.
My ratings go something like this:
5 stars: Very good, I will definitely make this again.
4 stars: Liked it quite a bit and will make it again but there was either something I had to change or I will only make now and then in the future.
If it is lower than these two there is something wrong with the recipe (b/c I'm not picky at all!) and I'll just leave you a comment.:)
I hope you enjoy the recipes I post and thank you for your reviews!
God bless,
~Leah
