"One of my sons could not get past the Monte Cristo sandwich at the Blue Bayou Restaurant in Disneyland. I made this casserole for him and he loved it. I hope you do to."

  1. Oh my gosh, what a great casserole. My husband and I are both Disney fanatics and love the Monte Cristo at the Blue Bayou. This is the closest I have ever found to the real thing! Thanks for sharing this recipe. This will definitely be used in our house!

  2. Everyone loved this casserole! I think when I make it again I will try making a sauce with red raspberries though...for some reason I associate that more with Monte Cristos than strawberries. I left out the parsley. Thanks for the recipe!

  3. Exceptional! Everyone in the house was taken by surprise by this divine sweet-and-savory combination. I didn't even have swiss on hand, but cheddar was a delight. I also combined all of the ingredients in one bowl, as layering was unnecessary. Finally, I dusted each serving with powdered sugar, skipping the topping in favor of strawberry jam (squeezable). The entire dish is already gone! Try this one, it's a winner.

  4. This is a great recipe. I made it for brunch this morning and served it with Raspberry Sauce #33624 instead of the strawberries. Husband went back for seconds - something he rarely does. This is a keeper.

Tweaks

  1. I had a craving and didn't have any store bought french toast so I made my own. Instead of dicing, I sliced them in half, on the diagonal, with the ham, turkey, and cheese sandwiched inbetween for a fun presentation. Served it with fresh strawberries!

  2. 10 Stars! This is pure genius!! Not greasy and sssoo easy! What a great brunch dish. Every one went nuts over this dish. Loved the strawberry sauce instead of the usual preserves. I accidentally mixed it all together instead of layering and will continue to do it that way! :-) Thanks for this recipe. :-)

  3. Fantastic! We love Monte Crito's so we were really looking forward to trying this. I halved the recipe and used 8X8 pan. Worked perfectly. Only change is instead of the strawberries, we used Raspberry preserves like we do with the sammies. Nice sweet/tart compliment. Even tho I think there was a little more prep work than actual sammies, this seemed so much easier. Thank you so much for this great alternative.
