Nestle' Oatmeal Scotchies

"One of our families favorite cookies. I often bake these to take to different events and am always asked for the recipe since they are such a different cookie from the standard cookie."

Questions & Replies

  1. Why did mine run all over and not stay together? Yes I used stick butter.

  2. When Nestle first printed this recipe on the butterscotch chip bag, it called for orange extract. It became my husband's favorite cookie. Unfortunately, I've misplaced the original recipe which I cut from the bag, but I substitute the orange extract for the vanilla and it works.

  3. How do I adjust for 8,000 feet?

  4. Can I use quick oats, instead?

  5. If I use sifted flour, what amount do I use?

Reviews

  1. Made these to take to work along with some other goodies, and they were the first ones gone. Wonderful recipe! A "must have" from now on when I bake.

  2. I absolutely love these. They are my favorite cookie, there is just something about the flavor of butterscotch & oatmeal together. Wonderful.

  3. I used 1/2 cup butter and 1/2 cup shortening and baked on parchment paper at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 13 - 14 minutes. Perfect! No spreading. Just the right amount of soft and crunch. I did throw in about 1/2 teaspoon orange zest...good, but think I will leave out next time.

  4. Flat carmelized pancakes with butterscotch chips.

  5. I do love these cookies but they always fall apart! I do use parchment paper. I think I'm gonna try lowering the oven temp to 350 and cooking a little longer.

Tweaks

  1. 350 degree oven for 10-12 min. Chilled dough in fridge between batches.

  2. A long time favorite of ours! You can also use quick oats instead of old fashioned oats, and for a change you can add the zest of one orange and cut the vanilla in half. If you do the orange zest, put it in when you are creaming the butter and sugars.

  3. This was perfect!....added walnuts!....I'm going to use this recipe and do choc chips instead this week!.....the recipe base is wonderful.......

  4. Added extra love??
