ingredients

  • 2 eggs (organic or free-run is best because the colour of the yolk is beautiful)
  • water
  • 14 teaspoon sea salt

directions

  • In a frying pan, heat enough water to cover the egg(s) to a low boil. Add salt.
  • Crack an egg into a small bowl. Quickly dip bowl into the water. Slide the raw egg into the water. Immediately slide the other egg into the water in the same fashion.
  • TURN OFF HEAT but leave on burner! Cover pan with lid - DO NOT UNCOVER and let sit for 4 to 6 minutes. You can uncover to check them, starting at 4 minutes. You'll know they're done if the white is not really jiggly.
  • Using a slotted spoon, gently place eggs on a tea towel. If you use scented detergents or fabric softeners on your towels, do not use them. Instead, slide egg(s) onto good quality paper towels, so the towel doesn't fall apart. Let sit for a few seconds to drain the water.
  • Place eggs on to toast, a slice of tomato, steamed spinach and/or a piece of low fat cheese.

  1. Super easy! I always used the vinegar and boil the heck outta them method but this is nice because I can walk away from the stove for a second! Thanks Nif! Made for ZWT 8

  2. This is so easy to do! I made this this morning before work, and I was able to get it made and eaten in plenty of time to make it to work on time! I cooked mine for 4 minutes, but I like a runny yolk and my stove tends to cook a bit hot. Made for Football tag, week 10. Congrats on your win.

  3. Yay for me! This is the first time I have poached an egg without mutilating it. It sounds kind of stupid to say you can't poach an egg, but I could never do it without the whites or yolk spreading all over the pan. Thx for the simple directions.

  4. I am so excited that I now know how to make a pefect poached egg! I have a gas stove and took it off of the burner at 4 minutes which turned out great. Thanks Nif for a super easy keeper. Made for I Recommend Tag.

  5. I have an electric stove, so I also followed the advice of others and removed from the burner, as it was boiling and foaming up when I left it on it!! I set my timer for 4 mins and took it out of the water. My egg was on the smaller size but I think with a larger egg this would have been the perfect amount of time. Thanks Nif for sharing a new method for poached eggs that I will use from now on, no need to babysit the pot this way. Made for potluck tag!!

I love great food and I particularly like trying cuisines new to me! Although I don't prepare as much food as I used to, creating in my kitchen is still one of my favourite things to do. Enjoy!
