Nutty Cranberry Scones

"Posted for ZWT6 Tour. Found this recipe online while searching for traditional Christmas Cookies for the Great Britain Region. These sound so delicious with the use of cranberries and walnuts."

  • Mix dry ingredients well.
  • Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse pebbles.
  • Beat together egg, vanilla, and buttermilk, then add to dry ingredients and mix briefly (do not overmix dough).
  • Add walnuts and dried cranberries then mix briefly.
  • Turn dough out on well-floured cutting board. Knead briefly, working in enough flour to make a stiff dough.
  • Shape into rectangle about 1 1/2 inches thick. Cut into 12 squares.
  • Bake at 400F for 20 minutes.
