directions

  • Pour boiling water over oats, whole-wheat flour, sugar, salt, and butter. Cool until lukewarm.
  • Dissolve the yeast in warm water. Add this to the lukewarm batter. Add flour until the batter is thick enough to knead. Knead, adding enough flour while kneading to make a smooth elastic dough.
  • Cover dough and let rise in a warm place until the dough is double in size. Punch the dough down. Shape into two loaves and put into ungreased bread pans. Let rise again until dough is even with top of loaf pans.
  • Bake at 350F for 45 minutes. When loaves are still hot, grease tops of loaves with butter for a soft crust.

  1. Very good! I did change a few things, though. I halved it, but I kept the 2 Tbsp. of butter, as I always use that much in one loaf. Also, I cut the sugar by half but still used 1 1/2 tsp of salt. Personal preference only! :) Thanks for posting, made for Fall PAC 2012
