- 1 cup quick oats
- 3 tablespoons shortening
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 3 tablespoons molasses
- 1⁄2 cup sugar
- 2 cups boiling water
- 1 package yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1⁄2 cup water, lukewarm
- 6 cups flour
directions
- Pour the boiling water over the quick oats, shortening, salt, molasses and 1/2 cup sugar.
- Let stand until lukewarm.
- Dissolve yeast and sugar in 1/2 cup lukewarm water and add to oat mixture. Add flour and knead until firm.
- Let stand until double in size. Form into 2 loaves and let rise again until double in size. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
