Oklahoma Joe's Rib Rub

"Living in Kansas City, we have a wide range of BBQ joints to choose from, but our favorite has always been Oklahoma Joe's in the heart of KC! This is a mixture of flavors - sweet, peppery and spicy. You'll love it!"

Questions & Replies

  1. Is the "Chili Powder" called for the American chili powder (A pre-mix of cumin, salt, pepper, etc...) that would be used to make a pot of "Chili", or powdered chili (like a cayenne pepper powder)? TIA!

  1. KC, a very palatable Rub. So Many folks don't know the beauty of White Pepper. It is a zone of flavor all by itself. I wouldn't change a thing. WELL, maybe rub the ribs with some fresh Garlic but I will do anything to ward off Evil Spirits :O) That are less than 90 Proof. Cap'n Jack.

  2. A great rub. I used it on some pork ribs which I cooked in the crockpot on low for about 6 hours. I drained the liquid (there was a lot!), then added some bbq sauce and cooked for another hour on low. Delicious and so tender!

  3. Absolutely delicious! I have used it on ribs, brisket, pork chops and chicken. I have even sprinkled it on hamburgers. I have a chicken in the smoker right now liberally covered with this delicious rub. Thank you for posting it.

  4. I used this on some beautiful baby back ribs which I smoked. They came out great, and the rub has all the notes you are looking for in a great BBQ. Thanks for posting this.

  5. I used this last week on some pork ribs that I smoked with Hickory. Let me start by saying thank you for a really great recipe. They weren't too sweet, and the flavors came through the smoke nicely. Just a really great rub, and I will definitely be experimenting with this on some other smoked delicacies!

Tweaks

  1. Just tried this on my family during our fishing trip. I have never tried a dry rub (always slathered with BBQ sauce) and I can't believe how great these turned out. Put the ribs in a slow cooker for 8 hours on low and everyone gave them rave reviews. The only thing I changed was to substitute ceyenne pepper (I am a hot/spicy food junkie) for the white pepper (didn't have white pepper) and added some red pepper flakes. Thanks for the recipe, I know I will be using this over and over.
