  1. Onion Pie...... Just tried this recipe and I can't say enough good things about it. I added a small amount of ham to the recipe. It is even good cold in the morning with coffee. A breakfast treat. Something different.

  2. Thank you for posting this wonderful recipe! My husband and I tried onion pie a few years ago at a Century Farm event near our home and we've been looking for the recipe ever since. This is it! I made some changes (out of necessity - I was out of some ingredients) but it was still FABULOUS! I only had 4 large onions and no caraway seed, so I used the four I had and subbed nutmeg for the caraway. Since there were less onions in mine, I reduced the milk to 1-1/2 cups. I also threw in about a cup of grated sharp cheddar/monterey jack mix cheese. It was perfect. Shared some with my mom and she's raving about it too!

  3. Like Mode Chef, I have a bunch of onions to use up and found this gem of a recipe. I used 3 large white onions. After adding them to the egg/milk mixture I looked back and forth from the store bought crust to the amount of filling and opted for using some pastry dough I had previously thawed. My 9" pie dish is larger than the 9" pie crusts you can buy in the store... Still, I had about 1 cup of filling that didn't fit in the pie plate. Regardless, the pie turned out great! Yum!

  4. I found this recipe when I needed to use up alot of onions. It is simple to make and quite elegant, despite how humble it seems to be. silky texture and subtle taste. I substited 2 cups of soy milk instead of cow's milk and it still came out wonderfully.

  5. This was very good - but I did add ingredients we favour. The caraway seeds lift the flavour; I used WHITE pepper, added some 10% cream to the milk,& tossed in a handful of grated cheese I had left. 2nd time, I added sauteed mushroom slices to the bottom. Essentially its a huge quiche stuffed with onion, but tasty. Please, though, put in baking instructions they are part of a recipe: I guessed 1 hr at 325 but 350 - 355 is much better. This is a good basic recipe easy to tailor to your own tastes.
