directions

  • Warm up olive oil in a 10" or 12" skillet.
  • Mix the corn meal and Old Bay seasoning thoroughly, then spread out on a platter.
  • Coat tilapia fillets lightly, but thoroughly with corn meal and Old Bay mixture.
  • Lay coated fillets in hot olive oil (medium-medium high heat) and cook until golden on the bottom, then turn fillets over and repeat.
  • Do not overcook the fish--it's easy to do.
  • While fillets are cooking, combine Miracle Whip, sweet relish, and lemon juice and stir until well blended, then serve with the fish.
  • It's quick, easy, and doesn't require a lot of cleanup.
  • Steamed carrots or broccoli and some form of potatoes go well with this.

  1. This is great! I purchased 6 - yes, 6 - pounds of Tilapia filets without ever having tasted it. We got it yesterday, so today I made a couple for lunch using your recipe. Delicious! And you're right - quick and easy. I'm not a fan of anything that resembles tartar sauce, so I had mine "as is" with a sprinkling of salt and pepper. I'm planning on making this for my Kiddo for lunch tomorrow - she's gonna love it. Thanks!

  2. The fish made a delicious and super quick dinner for DH and me. After getting into the recipe it was discovered that I didn't have cornmeal. I did have polenta which worked beautifully after being whirled around in the coffee grinder. The fish was cooked in a cast iron skillet and came out very crisp, flaky and nicely seasoned. This was served with DH's tarter sauce.

  3. Absolutely fantastic! The fish was crispy, and we enjoyed the taste of the Old Bay seasoning. I cooked them three minutes each side and they came out perfectly. The tartar sauce was great as well. I can't wait to have these again -- they go into my "permanent" file. Thanks for posting this recipe!

  4. this was fantastic!....the kids loved it.....my son asked me to make these again for dinner but to put them on a roll!....I served them tonight with string beans and buttered noodles.....thanks for such an easy recipe that will be going into my favorite file!

  5. This was so good, the only tweak I made was using Creole seasoning instead of old bay, I didn't have any old bay on hand.
