Polish Angel Wings-Chrusciki

"This is a classic Polish cookie that my mom and Bushia used to make at Christmas time. I've found that this is a really hard dough to work with, but it is from the original Polish recipe translated into English. These are not really sweet cookies, but they get most of their sweetness from the powdered sugar on the outside."

  1. My Ukrainian grandmother passed when I was in my late teens. These were a holiday tradition in her home and I was too busy being a kid to ever pay attention to her when she was cooking. For years I have tried to find a recipe like hers. Many of these cookies use sour cream or whiskey, and were close, but not right. This one hits the mark. I made these last year for Christmas and they've become a tradition in my home now. I did sub vanilla with brandy, but otherwise they are perfect. Thank you for giving me back a little piece of my childhood.

  3. My grandma made these too! She called them "inside out pants". She always had a tin of these when we visited, I can't wait to try this recipe.

  4. This calls for cream, is it heavy cream, or milk?

  1. Hi Bippie, this is very close to our family recipe. The secret, of course, is to roll the dough very very thin. The OTHER secret is to use whiskey instead of vanilla! It is a lot of work, so for us it was a Christmas thing. Thanks for posting. . . . . Janet

Just got married on 07/07/07, so I would love to get some Just for 2 dinner menus. Finally enjoying the wonderful California weather. I haven't started baking, but I'm really excited to get back into the contests here. <br> <br><img src=http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/adopted_1_1.jpg border=0 alt=Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting><img src=http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/beartag_1_1.jpg border=0 alt=Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting> <br><img src=http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/projects/200_PACpic.jpg border=0 alt=Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket> <img src=http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/projects/pacbanner.jpg border=0 alt=Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket> <br><img src=http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/Adopted1smp.jpg border=0 alt=Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket><img src=http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/smPACp.jpg border=0 alt=Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket> <br><img src=http://www.recipezaar.com/members/home/1535/CLC2.gif> <br> <br><img src=http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/PAC08Main.jpg border=0 alt=Photobucket><img src=http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/susied214/permanent%20collection/adoptedspring08.jpg border=0 alt=Photobucket> <br> <br>
