As simple as it is, this recipe didn't turn out so well for me :( I love the flavor the almond extract gives and they are chewy and moist, but the overall "shape" was a total flop. The first batch ended up looking like mounds of coconut in pools of baked condensed milk. In trying to fix this, I scraped them all off the pan back into a bowl, reshaped them and baked again for another 6 minutes (yes, I "twice-baked" them. I ended up with a thicker macaroon, crispy on the outside - chewy on the inside. I tried to flatten them out more on the second batch, but there was little improvement, just a flatter macaroon.
