- 1⁄2 cup butter
- 1⁄2 cup shortening
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup molasses
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
- 5 cups sifted flour
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons ginger
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon clove
directions
- Cream butter, shortening and sugar. Add egg, molasses and vinegar (mixture with curdle). Sift dry ingredients together and then gradually add to butter mixture. Chill 3 hours. Roll thin, use cookie cutters to make shapes. Place on cookie sheet and bake at 375 5-6 minutes. Makes 8-10 dozen.
