Russian Rocks

"Posted by request, this was my grandmother's recipe, handwritten on yellow lined note paper and dated "1972" along w/ a notation: "Easy to make." My grandmother was born in 1890 in Chichester, England, and moved to the US in the early 1900s. She was a very special lady, beloved of all her grandchildren. Recipe is exactly as written by my grandmother with no changes. Prep time and amount are estimates."

  1. These are heavenly! I can see why your grandmother called them rocks, without any baking powder or other leavening they are a bit "heavy," but yummy nonetheless (where does the Russian come in?). I used chopped almonds for the nuts. Dropped them by the spoonful on parchment paper on the cookie sheet. I think next time I might leave out the cinnamon, add a bit of cocoa and these would taste like a Cadbury's Fruit and Nut bar, or a Chunky cookie. Thanks for the recipe, it's a good one!
