Sallie's Hamburger Casserole
"This is a recipe I got many years ago from a friend. I made it every Friday night as part of a pre-game dinner for my son's high school football team. It is a real winner!!!!"

- 1 1⁄2 lbs ground beef
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄4 teaspoon pepper
- 1⁄4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1⁄4 teaspoon ground oregano
- sugar
- 24 ounces tomato sauce
- 8 ounces meullers wide egg noodles
- 1 cup sour cream
- 12 ounces cottage cheese
- 1⁄2 cup chopped onion
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
directions
- Brown beef and drain well.
- Add salt, pepper, garlic powder, oregano, sugar and tomato sauce, stirring well. Bring to a boil and simmer uncovered, 15 minutes.
- Cook egg noodles and drain.
- To the noodles add the sour cream, cottage cheese and onion - mix well.
- In a greased 13 x 9 inch pan, alternately layer the beef mixture with the noodle mixture, starting and ending with the beef mixture.
- Cover with the shredded cheddar cheese.
- Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 30 minutes, uncovered.

This is such an awesome recipe. I make it and split it between two 8x8 dishes. I often use this when I want to take someone who is sick or grieving.

Very good and very easy! It was a little salty when I made it. Probably depends on what you use for tomatoe sauce, but I won't add the salt next time.

This was very good and easy to throw together. The only change I made was to use italian seasoning instead of the oregano. Thanks for the recipe.

I was a stay at home Mom for 24 years, then almost 5 years ago I went back to my nursing career (lots of changes in 24 years!!) I worked as a well baby nurse for 4 years and now am a nurse in a newly opened pediatric emergency room. I volunteer for an Equine Rescue League (for 11 years) and coordinate their bake sale twice yearly. Believe it or not, my son turned me on to recipe zaar!!
