  • Cream butter. Add sugar gradually.
  • Add eggs one at a time alternately with orange juice.
  • Add flour that has been sifted with soda and baking powder, a little bit at a time. Should be a soft dough.
  • Shape as desired and brush with egg and milk mixture. Traditional Greek cookies are 2 small strands of dough twisted together and brushed with egg-milk mixture and sprinkled with sesame seed.
  • Use greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees to 400 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.

  2. These are lovely and soft and delicious. They also taste quite authentic, very much like the ones my mum would make. The only thing I would change is the egg wash - they look much better (all golden and brown) if you just brush them with egg only, rather than the egg and milk mixture.
     
  3. This was a great recipe, and I can imagine the simple braiding of the dough would be a fun task to give kids! Perfect snack with coffee or tea.
     
  4. Tried this recipe (I'm Greek, so make these biscuits every Easter) and they do not have enough butter or sugar in them. They taste fine, but not right texture.
     
  5. These cookies are sweet and buttery and really easy to make! Ended up adding a little extra liquid to the dough because it was a bit too dry. Also, when it's time to shape the cookies, make sure the strands aren't too thick or else they will turn out a bit doughy. Love the addition of sesame seeds.

  1. 1C.Unsalted Butter room temp,1C.Sugar cream together in Lg.Bowl.(Also you can dust in powdered sugar when cookies cool if would like them sweeter,& 1/2C.Sugar instead of 1C.to cut down on calories.)Add 3 Room temp egg yokes set aside the whites.Add 1/3C.Orange,Lemon,or Lime Juice even Apple Juice.Add 2tsp.Baking Powder & instead of 6C.Flour 3C.Take Egg Whites beat til stiff add 1/4tsp.Cream of Tartar & 3 Tablespoons Sugar.Fold into the cookie batter mixture.Make into the braids & spray with butter spray sprinkle with Finely Crushed Pistachios/Walnuts/Sesame seeds.Bake 325 for 12-15 minutes on tin foil lined butter sprayed cookie sheet.
     
  2. Our Cooks at the Greek Festival always put chopped walnuts on top of the egg wash instead of sesame seeds. Seems to give them a little more of a sweet taste without adding more sugar.
