"This is very good. There are other versions--some add whole kernel corn. Drain the cream style corn--it makes it not so dry."

  1. This is an authentic french-canadian shepherds pie recipe and if you look back through old Canadian cookbooks (come to my house if you don't have any, I have lots), you'll find it frequently printed just like this, excepting the peas and it is typically baked. This is as legit as they come and any Canadian will tell you so. I make this often and have done so since I was 11. And THAT was decades ago LOL!

  4. You have a lot of nerve calling this stuff "shepherd pie". Shepherd's Pie is, by history and tradition, an English/British dish and corn (as Americans know corn) is NOT available in British grocery stores. Also, it is a baked dish and not cooked on the stove. So I think you would do well to rename this dish something else.

  5. I know - we have to make everything according to what our tastes are. This is the basic recipe I use - I use canned sweet corn , carmelized onions (lots). I prefer to use yukon gold spuds made with half cream and half reg milk. Don't forget garlic with your meat! A recipe I make at least once every couple of months.
