Slow Cooker BBQ Beef Stew

"This recipe comes from kraftfoods.com. It sounded good and comforting for the winter months. I have made some adjustments to the recipe. Remember not all slow cookers are created the same, adjust the cooking times accordingly."

  1. We thought this was great! I cooked it according to directions, although I did add some extra water, since it seemed a bit dry looking to me, and it came out wonderfully well. Will definitely be doing it again. Thanks, PaulaG

  2. This was a tasty recipe, I like the change-up from your basic stew. I like my stew to be a little soupier, so I was a little disappointed how thick and dry it came out. I would recommend adding some beef broth for a more moist stew. I also recommend seasoning the beef with salt and pepper before browning.

  3. We really enjoyed this stew. I like the addition of the bbq sauce, gave it a little sweet taste. My husband said it made the peas taste like baked beans. I did add a half of can of tomato soup as it was drying out half way through the cooking cyle, plus we like our stew soupy.

  4. This was a hit at this house, even in July! I used onion flakes because they will melt into the dish and gave the flavor but DH can't pick them out and I totally forgot to add the peas but we loved it. The bbq sauce was a very nice change up in flavor and fit perfectly with summer. I had little juice (or gravy) but it wasn't a problem for us. If you want gravy for rice or anything you'll likely need to add more sauce and water. Made for Photo Tag.

  5. I chose this recipe to use up some bbq sauce and I'm glad I did! Even though I only used 1/2 cup of bbq sauce (this was all that was left in the bottle) it was fine and didn't add any extra liquid resulting in a very good stew with only a little broth - just the way I like it! Thanks for sharing this keeper which we will be having often!

I came to this site in March of 2004. It was then called Recipezaar. This site was the first on-line site that I ever joined. I first popped in 2003 while searching for a Peach Cobbler Recipe. In March of 2004, DH was having shoulder surgery and I was looking for a Split Pea Soup. Once again I found myself on Zaar as it came to be called. Over the years I hung out and learned from some of the best home cooks in the country, I posted over 700 recipes on the site, reviewed over 3500 recipes and posted over 3000 food photos. Over the next 10 years the site made many changes and in 2010 it was sold to to Food Network and became Food.com. Until last year we played games, talked and shared with one another. As a result of the community and the relationships I built I got to meet some wonderful people from all over the country. I also have a great number of friends that I have never meet face to face. Some of us still hang out at various places across the net. Zaar was more than a cooking community. It was an internet community of friendship. Life is an adventure ever changing.
