  1. Hey all, happy new year! Question: after you sauté the onion in the bacon grease, do you drain the grease then add the cabbage , or add the cabbage to the grease?

  1. Well, DH hates cooked cabbage, or should I say DID! We both went wild over this! We served it with Amy V's pork chops and noodles (there went the cholestrol count..)and were in heaven. The flavor the bacon adds to this dish is unbelievable! (As Emeril says pork fat rules!) I did add some creole spice to it as it cooked to kick it up a notch. This will be an often served side dish at our house! Thanks Kari for getting DH to eat cabbage!!!!

  2. We love Cabbage fixed this way. I have been making it for years, It is so good. Glad that you posted the recipe for others to enjoy.

  3. Delicious! Thank you so much for the recipe. My husband came down with Covid and so I had to quickly create a New Year’s Day menu. Normally we have just greens and found a neighbor to give me some after I’ve already started this recipe. I remember my mother making cabbage growing up, which is why I found this recipe.

  4. Too bland. I had to dress it up with 2 tbsp. of Cavenders Greek Seasoning, add another stick of butter, and the bacon seemed out of place. Would have been great with out the meat, better seasoning like I added. After I fixed it, it was the favorites dish at the pot luck New Years Dinner!~ Also, let it all steam until all wilted with a big tight lid, drain and put into casserole dish and serve.

  5. This was delish!!!! Very fattening but good! Hey, I don't cook it but once a year anyway!

Tweaks

  1. This was the first time I made this dish. I like a lot of seasoning in foods. So I added Tony Charchere's Original Creole Seasoning and granulated garlic powder for extra flavor. Turned out very tasty.
