Best Ever Spaghetti Sauce

"This is my favorite spaghetti sauce recipe. It comes from a freezer cookbook called Once a Month Cooking. This makes alot so plan on freezing about half of the recipe. You can use this sauce on spaghetti, manicotti, veal (or chicken) scallopini, or French bread pizza"

  1. AngelicFantasia, terrific recipe! I used homemade Italian sausage (given to us by friends) and followed the recipe exactly. It was delicious. I used for (recipe#29451) Stuffed Cabbage Rolls, by MizzNezz, and still had enough leftover to freeze for later and to share with the friend's who shared the sausage. Thanks for a winner! Oh, and it was so simple to get the sauce going on the stove while I spent a few hours in the kitchen preparing other things as well. : )

  2. I doubled the recipe when I made this and was able to serve 6 people and had enough leftover (which I froze in quart jars) for 2 more meals! I made it in the crockpot and let it cook on high for about 5 hours. I didn't add any sausage but served it with meatballs instead and it turned out great! It's an excellent sauce and much better than store-bought. Definitely a keeper!

  3. I made this (doubled it) for my once a month cooking. Used it on Calzones, and will use it for spaghetti. Wonderful flavor, and I love the texture. (I am accustomed to meatless sauces)

  4. Excellent! I had to sub the sausage for ground beef because it was what we had, and it was still excellent! Thanks for a great recipe!!

  5. Great! Needed a good basic sauce so doubled the recipe, omitted the sausage, and added about a tablespoon of olive oil. Simmered on the stove. This made about 4 quarts of sauce, and I froze the leftovers in quart jars for future meals. Next time I'll try the sausage. Thanks for sharing the recipe! Update: Made another batch with Italian sausage and it was really good. Forgot to add in my earlier review that I cut the salt down. This time I followed the recipe for the sausage version, but added only 1 t salt, and my kids commented that it was too salty. I'll watch that next time. Thanks for sharing!

  1. Doesn't get any easier or tasty than this...And I am Italian....Doubled up on the garlic and oregano and added some wine instead of water.....Try a nice Chianti! Gratci for the recipe!

  2. Made this tonight- and we really really liked it! Only change I made was to use a can of diced tomatoes instead of one of the tomato sauces, and I used brown sugar in the sauce. Thanks for sharing such an easy recipe!

  3. We loved this very simple recipe. Even my sauce-picky husband. I used a pound of Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage instead of the Italian sausage. Next time I will eliminate the tomato paste and just add a little chopped tomatoes or a can of tomatoes. The paste made it a little too tomato-y for us. I think most people would like it, but we just don't generally like the tomato. Anyway, it was incredible and easy. I used the crock pot. Thank you for a great recipe.

  4. loved this. I only had 2 cans of tomato sauce so I used 1 can diced tomatoes in place of 3rd can of sauce, also reduced salt to 1/2 tsp...hate something coming out salty. did in crock and added some frozen meatballs.. thank you for a great sauce!

  5. Great recipe Angelic. I've been searching for a good pasta sauce, and thats to you, I found one! I modified it though. I substituted the sausage for ground beef which I let cook right in the sauce. I adore vegetables so I added peppers, mushrooms and celery. I also like spices, so I added italian spices, paprika, black pepper and a pinch of cayenne pepper for extra zing. Thank you for sharing.
