Stove Top Rice Oriental Ground Beef

"I used to use the Hamburger Helpers but desided it was cheaper to go this way with it. It is better and warms up easier."

  1. I sauteed the rice before adding everything else. I did add about 1/4 a cup more water & it turned out perfectly. For those of you who don't cook rice, make sure you cover it while cooking. VERY easy and nice work night meal.

  2. I didn't know that Rice Oriental had been discontinued until I stumbled upon this recipe. How sad! But I'm happy to report that this will do as a substitute! I had to add about 3 cups of water to give the rice ample time to cook. Still had a few crunchy ones, but I'll adjust accordingly next time. I would suggest covering this while cooking. Oh, and NO mushrooms! Thanks!!!

  3. I was sad when GM discontinued this favorite. I made the recipe a bit differet: 2 lbs ground beef, 2 packets onion soup mix, 3 c. water, 3 tb soy sauce, 1.5 c rice, no mushrooms. Turned out wonderfully!!

  4. Great recipe. Used to use the HH version. I add a can of Asian veggies and garnish with unsalted cashews and pickled ginger.

  5. I thought this was actually better than the original. Prepared exactly as written, although to suit our personal tastes I will add quite a bit more garlic in the future. Thank you so much for sharing this!

Tweaks

  1. Try adding some water chestnuts to it also, very yummy

  2. I made this tonight. I am rating this a 4 because I made so many changes to it. We really like it with the changes I made. I added sliced mushrooms, carrots and celery to the onion. I also used garlic, ground ginger, pepper and broth instead of the water. It added more flavor that way. I didn't use the onion soup mix. We ended up putting duck sauce on the top and that made it really good. Thanks!!

  3. oops, I forgot to add to my review, that I used veggie crumbles instead of beef to make it a vegetarian dish.

I do not think I have a pet peeve. I think people are different for reasons that are not known to us. We just have to get along. I always look for the good in people and not the things I do not like.
