Taco Bell Wild Sauce

"Remember the 'wild sauce' that Taco Bell used to have back in the 90's? It was spicy hot and intensely flavorful.. I was disappointed when they discontinued it, and have tried many attempts at reproducing it - and I think I've got it close, here.. I do believe this tastes as good as I remembered .. Use of Tabasco is key, so no substitutes - it just won't be the same.."

 1. Great job duplicating this recipe! It is very close to how i remember it.

 2. Hi Steve!! I didn't know this was your recipe till I was ready to rate it! Great sauce!! I can't tell ya how many times I've made it.. I'm guessing 6 times in a week. Our neighbors had me make it twice. I finally printed the recipe off for them. I made it, as it was posted. No changes. Except for today... I was low on onion flakes.. That didn't seem to make a huge change. In place, I added a bit of onion soup mix (the dry stuff.) lol My DH said this is THE best hot sauce I ever made! *YAY* Huge high 5 to you! Its good stuff.. Sorry my pic isn't the best. I'm lucky I got one. This sauce goes FAST in my house. DD puts it on everything. Neighbors LOVE it. This deserves more than 5 stars!! Thanks for sharing. :)

 4. I worked at Taco Bell in the 90s when wild sauce was being used and it was my absolute favorite sauce! I was also working there when it was discontinued and I was able to save the last bag from the last case that was on hand before it ran out. I kept it in my freezer for sometime but finally went through it. Years later when the fire sauce packets were introduced I tried them and I noticed a very similar taste. I thought to myself wow this is the old wild sauce and they have just packaged it into the small packets. So when I saw this recipe online I decided to go ahead and try it I made it exactly as the recipe suggested and it had very similar flavor and heat to the wild sauce that I remembered. The only difference that I really saw was in the consistency it was a little thinner by this recipe then the wild sauce was when we had it in the store. Of course when it was held in the steam table in the restaurant it tended to lose moisture to evaporation which did cause it to thicken some which I actually like. I made about a quart which I have in my refrigerator but I’m going to make one small change to it. I’m going to add some cornstarch or a little more tomato paste to thicken it up slightly and then it should be exactly as I remember it. Thank you so much for this recipe and for bringing back my good old days at the Bell! I’ll look forward to making this for a very long time to come! Alan Crowder

 5. I made this for the first time today!
It's really good.
I like mine extra hot, so I did these modifications:

1. Used about 1/8 cup of Tabasco (yes, an eighth of a cup).
2. Used extra-hot chili powder.
3. Instead of plain vinegar, I used the liquid from the jalapeno jar.
4. Used extra-strength cayenne (250,000 scoville units of heat)
5. Used minced garlic instead of minced onion (I think it has more flavor)
6. Used two teaspoons of sugar instead of just one.

This is really good!
I love it!
Deliciously hot, and so flavorful I could eat it with a spoon if I really wanted to. :)
