Taco Time's Secret Beef Seasoning

"I found this recipe on Y! Answers last week and finally tried it tonight. It did not disappoint. I used burrito size tortillas. I thought maybe that Taco Time's mixture is a little wetter, but the taste is spot-on! I used about 1/4 of a large onion and used a chopper. *Update - added some water as it was warming and it definitely helped. I didn't measure, but it was at least 4 T. Just add a little at a time."

  1. I worked for Taco Time in high school and made the “beef” taco meat many times. This recipe is super close but there was tvp added to the mixture as well as water. All in all, this recipe works nicely. Thank you for posting!

  2. I have not tried this recipe yet but I will .. I worked at taco time for quite a while as a teen and I was that person that made the beef lol Yes they do add water .. also in the super sized meat seasoning package there was something in the mixture as a filler of sorts .. not sure may of been panko or something similar ..

  3. I'm a freak for Taco Time, and this was close enough to totally satisfy! I also added some water, as you suggested, and I think the consistancy was great. This will be my standard taco recipe from now on. Thanks for posting!

  4. I've had Taco Time soft tacos many times and this recipe tastes nothing like them, and yes I followed the directions.

  5. You need to add about 1/3 the volume of beef with TVP. it's in the "seasonings" packet and gives it the texture, as does beating the snot out of the whole mixture in a huge pot with a paddle (seriously, yes). I think you have the chili powder and cumin amounts reversed, and you forgot celery salt. I seem to recall there was some sort of tomato powder or maybe sauced used, too???

I love to cook and have become quite a bit of a foodie. I'm always on the lookout for a great, classically British recipe. I can't say I have a favourite cookbook, but I love to collect my own recipes in a huge 3" binder. I'll try anything once.
