  1. This was very nice. My husband is English and I cook Toad in the Hole quite often, but then the plain recipe. This batter was richer and softer. The onion and the cheese are great ingredients to add, but next time(and there will be a next time) I will increase the amount of cheese because that flavor did not come through enough.Thank you for this different Toad version!

  2. It came out golden and tasted just as good as it looked - As suggested by the previous reviewer I increased the cheese to 1/2 cup and doubled the onion to 4 tbsp I used locally made English Bangers. I made the batter earlier in the day kept it very cold in the fridge and poured it into the 400 degree pan over the bangers. I think this helps rhe batter to rise (Ido this with my Yorkshire Puddings too) With the increased cheese and onion this is better than a 5 star. Thank-you Barbara for a comfort food recipe that I will make again — Feb 27, 2003, 2 members found this helpful Made this again and this time took photos - I think they convene how good this recipe really is! Thanks Arroostook for posting

  3. AWESOME! cooking time is perfect. I precooked the sausage in a fry pan with the onions. I left the onions in the fry pan and made gravy. Serve with mashed potatoes. Comfort food for sure

  4. Five stars all the way! I was quite surprised what a difference the cheese made in Toad-in-the-Hole; it's a delicious addition. I left out the onion due to DS's request, but I can just imagine that the addition of onion would make this even better. I had 6 plump "bangers" and, surprisingly, after 20 minutes in the oven I had hardly any fat in the pan. So I added some canola oil and, like Bergy, added the batter that I had made earlier and kept chilled in the fridge. After 30 minutes it was done to perfection and was very much enjoyed at dinner. Thanks for posting; it's a definite keeper!

  5. We made this for Christmas Breakfast. It most definitely didn't meet up to the level of anticipation we'd developed after reading the reviews and imagining the flavors the ingredients would create together. It was better than the apple pancake recipe we had served with it tho. We had utilized johnsonville breakfast links that had been previously cooked up. Our chopped sweet onion was likely closer to 1/3c rather than 1/4c. At 30min baking time we had a dense brick of dough; only about an inch of the edges had risen and was a lovely golden color. It took a total of 55min for the dough/batter to cook through. The dijon mustard was the saving grace. I am glad this works so nicely for others--we, however, will not be attempting again.

Zaar...Wow, what a place! I'm one of the old timers of Zaar. I can't count the number of wonderful dishes I cooked in the past few years since joining. Along the way I have had the pleasure of meeting several Zaar chefs. Talk about your fruits and nuts! lol. I have enjoyed meeting them all. Family: What's to say...I have had the same sweet husband forever (Good thing....I'd hate to have to break a new one in...=) and live close to a couple of grown children. (Maybe you've met Smoke Alarm Jr. ..her brown rolls are sooo good!) Therefore, my family gets together often to enjoy each other's company and cooking. My greatest joy is six "little to tallerthanme" kids running around calling me Grammy. They wear me out! lol For the past thirty years I have been a Special Education teacher for grades 9-12 and love it. Took some time off last year to recovery from surgery, chemotherapy and radiation for breast cancer. (Loved the radiation....I keep imagining that we are absolutely napalming the nasty cancer cells tohellandback to keep the little suckers from returning. =) My prognosis is good and now "I'm back in the saddle again". lol. Being a north country "gurl", I am happiest outside...walking, fishing, sitting in front of an outdoor fire or being on water (although in February it's a bit stiff....=0) When indoors I like to read, garden, knit, quilt and paint. During cold Maine weather I like to warm my feet on a very large ( 100 pounds of long legs and huge feet), sweet and furry golden retriever named Kerry (aka KTBRD: Kerry the big red dawg..lol) . In the summer, the dawg and I round up the grandkids, hit the local dairy bar for a Mounds Sundae that is to die for!!!=0) . Then spend a lot of long and lazy summer days at camp . All in all...Boy, Life is good! =)
