- 2 lbs green cabbage
- 1 lb hamburger
- 1 egg
- 1⁄4 cup raw rice
- 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
- 1 (16 ounce) can tomatoes
- 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1⁄4 cup vinegar
- 3⁄4 cup brown rice
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 5 small potatoes, cut up
- 1 1⁄2 cups water
directions
- Cut cabbage in wedges or chunks (not fine as for coleslaw) and place in bottom of large Dutch oven. Mix tomatoes , tomato sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, lemon juice, and water together. Cover and cook over medium high heat briefly.
- Mix hamburger, egg, salt, and uncooked rice together and make into meatballs (about 18 - 20) Place on top of cabbbage mixture. Cover pot. Lower heat and simmer gently for 2 1/2 hours Add raisins last 45 minute (optional) Makes about 10 servings and freezes well.
