  • Cut cabbage in wedges or chunks (not fine as for coleslaw) and place in bottom of large Dutch oven. Mix tomatoes , tomato sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, lemon juice, and water together. Cover and cook over medium high heat briefly.
  • Mix hamburger, egg, salt, and uncooked rice together and make into meatballs (about 18 - 20) Place on top of cabbbage mixture. Cover pot. Lower heat and simmer gently for 2 1/2 hours Add raisins last 45 minute (optional) Makes about 10 servings and freezes well.
