Warm Chocolate Dumplings over Ice Cream

  • Mix sauce ingredients well.
  • Heat sauce ingriedents until it comes to a boil and thickens slightly.
  • Then remove it from the heat.
  • Beat dumpling ingredients for one minute.
  • Return the skillet with the sauce ingredients to the heat, cover and bring it to a simmer.
  • Drop dumplings by the tablespoon into the sauce.
  • Cover and simmer gently 13 to 15 minutes.
  • (Peek once to make sure the sauce is simmering) For each serving put a scoop of ice cream in a single serving dish.
  • Place one hot dumpling over the ice cream, and spoon some of the hot chocolate sauce over it.
  • Eat standing up so the calories don't count.

  1. Seriously delicious -surprisingly fluffy dumplings. Very easy to make. Not sure about your 45 minutes prep time unless you are milking the cow or grinding the wheat. It's more like 15 minutes. In our family it served at least 6 rather than 4. We'd be heffalumps if we ate all that. I didn't agree with the "beating" directions for the dumpling mixture because dumplings can turn into golf balls pretty soon if you beat them to a pulp. Keep a light touch. With all that milk it was a bit soupy and I had to add more flour to get a dough rather than glug. Next time, I'd keep some milk back and add only if necessary. Flour needs to be soft flour, not unbleached or bread flour. This needs to be cooked in a 10 cup (2 1/2 litre) saucepan - not smaller. The dumplings need to be put in FAST - no waiting around yakking while that sauce is simmering. Hope this helps you on your way to culinary stardom.
