White Cheese Lasagna

"This is different from most "white" lasagnas on the site....it has ground chuck in it. Of course, you can substitute ground turkey or even chopped chicken, but I think it tastes best with the ground chuck. This is very creamy, cheesy, and rich!"

directions

  • Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package directions; drain well. Sprinkle with olive oil; toss gently, and set aside.
  • Cook the ground chuck, onion, celery, and garlic in a large skillet until the meat is browned, stirring to crumble meat. Drain mixture, and return to skillet.
  • Add half and half and the next 5 ingredients; cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the cream cheese melts. Add the wine, cheddar cheese, and gouda cheese; cook, stirring constantly, until the cheese melts. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • Combine the cottage cheese and egg in a small bowl, stirring well. Set aside.
  • Layer half of the reserved noodles in a greased 13x9x2 inch baking pan. Top with half the reserved meat mixture, half the cottage cheese mixture, and half the mozzarella cheese slices. Repeat layers, omitting the mozzarella. Bake, uncovered at 375 degrees for 20 minutes. Top with the remaining mozzarella, and bake an additional 15 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.

  1. Mama Mia! Amazing! I have to be honest. I am a tomato lover; very very rarely do I enjoy a pasta dish that doesn't have a red sauce or a tomato component of some sort, but I was cooking for someone with a tomato allergy, so I went with it... And boy am I glad I did! This is creamy, gooey, lasagna-y goodness! I used 1/2 lb beef and subbed 2 cups chopped portabellas for the other 1/2 lb, but otherwise followed the recipe. I'll still make regular lasagna, but this will be my go-to when I want something a little different!

  2. This lasagna is so good. I love the taste of all the cheeses and wine. It makes it so good. Great choice of spices also. I omitted the salt. Instead of gouda cheese, I used monterey jack. Thanks breezermom :) Made for the Count Dracula and His Hot Bites for ZWT7

  3. Never made lasagna like this before, but it was much easier than traditional. Made it as directed and it turned out great! I'm not the biggest fan of cottage cheese but you can't even really taste it! It just adds the perfect creaminess.

  4. This is a wonderfully different take on Lasagna! I wanted to try this "right now", so I used ingredients that I had on hand. I substituted chicken stock for the white wine and sour cream for the cottage cheese. I left out the Gouda, but added chopped zucchini and mushrooms to amp up the health factor. I used 15 no-bake lasagna noodles in my 13x9 inch pan and they worked perfectly (baking covered for 25 minutes and uncovered with the cheese for 10 minutes). My husband loved this and I plan to make it again for my parents to try it. Thanks for posting!

  5. Spent a small fortune on all the cheeses for this dish and was quite disappointed. I was expecting a creamy rich lasagna, and it was not. I followed recipe as directed and ended up throwing 3/4 of it away. I make my red sauce lasagna with cottage cheese as well, and we LOVE it that way. This recipe just had way too much cheese.
