I was born and brought up in North West London England. My family moved to Dorset (Thomas Hardy country) in the 1960's I took up cooking before I was married. I then specialized in Indian Cuisine at home merely as a hobby. Later got into French, Chinese and Italian cookery styles. I love experimenting with copying professional sauces and tastes. Some vegetarian experimentation was fun with trying to re create the superb wholefood recipies found in "Cranks" Restaurant at the famous Dartington Cider Press in the 1980's. Then I need not have bothered as they published a book of all their recipies! My pet hate is the use by industry of MSG Monosodium Glutamate to tart up the flavour of things that children need to have socked to them to get addicted to. It's clawing, sweet, artificial tasting and I am allergic to it. It gives rise to Chinese Restaurant Syndrome in many people. This is chest pains and fake heart attack. Plus a feeling of hunger within minutes of eating a large meal. I hate it and think it should be banned as a dangerous substance. But manufacturers use it ubiquitously in soups, packeted products and particularly in ready made dishes with sauces. It shouldn't be needed if the product has good enough ingredients with good enough flavour to begin with. It's a cheat plain and simple. Probably aimed at making smokers able to taste it. They are another of my pet hates ! Smokers. They don't want to taste anything but smoke. That's why they light up between courses. They should be banned from the world too !!
