BBQ Sauce

"When I made BBQ out of leftover turkey, it always disappeared very quickly. Now that the kids are gone, I actually have enough to freeze and it is just as good when enjoyed later. I got the recipe from a friend of a friend back in the mid-70s when I lived in MS."

directions

  • Combine ingredients in med saucepan; simmer 20 minutes.
  • TO MAKE BBQ: Add appx 4 c cut-up cooked meat, such as beef, pork, chicken, or turkey, to saucepan and cook over low heat for 2 hrs til sauce is absorbed.
  • Note: I have tried reducing the amt of oil but the BBQ tends to burn unless very carefully watched.
  • Next time, I will try making the BBQ in my slow cooker and see if that helps.

  1. I really liked this recipe! I had pulled pork that I wanted to turn into BBQ pork but was out of bottled sauce so I used this recipe to make my own. Very easy and very tasty! I will definitely be making this again. Thanks for sharing.

  2. This was easy to make and tasted good but the oil just sat on top.

  3. What a great way to use up leftover pork tenderloin! This was easy to throw together with things I always have on hand. I only had about 2 cups of meat, so I took 1/2 of the sauce out of the pan before adding the meat. The meat and sauce combined nicely in a little over an hour and I still have another batch of sauce to use for something else. Thanks IM!

  4. I love this. I did alter it a bit. I used tomato paste instead of ketchup. I added extra onion because we are big on onion taste at my house. And I used the brown sugar. I let this simmer in my slow cooker for 3-4 hours and then basted my pork ribs with it. Even my husband raved about the sauce. Wonderful recipe, thank you for sharing....Dari

  5. This was easy, quick and delicious - using leftover grilled pork tenderloin, spooning the mixture over toasted, open face sandwich buns. Thank You IM, for pointing out your recipe in Recipe Request ... Anna
