  • Clean and break up greens.
  • Start in salt water, boil about 20 or 30 mins.
  • Pour off broth.
  • Start Greens in fresh salt water.
  • Add meat and a dash of pepper flakes if you want.
  • Cook until tender.
  • About 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

  1. Here's another good one for south cooking. You must season to your taste. Ham Hocks Ham Bones just do it. You will love it. Make sure you get a big batch of these babys they cook down alot. Thank You
     
  2. Simple and basic,Very good recipe, I did add 2 tablespoons of sugar and 1 tablespoon of vinegar. My family states that greens are bitter without it.
     
  3. First time I've tried the method of preboiling and draining the greens. It did clear the final cooking broth. I preboiled, drained and then used the crockpot 8 hours on low so that I didn't have to watch it. Wish I'd read Braunda's comments and done some more seasoning. Next time I'll also add some onion and garlic.
     
  4. These are the Best Greens I have ever ate! You should preboil first. It gets off all that green water Yuck! Great with Ham, Hamhocks, Jowl bacon. And Red pepper flakes. They are not greasy! Just taste Great!
