Marty Family Bread and Sausage Stuffing

"This is our family's traditional Thanksgiving turkey stuffing that I've been helping my Mom make since I was a little girl (and I guess the same stuff she grew up on too). This will work with about any size turkey; the cooking time really depends on your bird. Quick, easy, and IMHO, delicious! Also great on a sandwich the next day (if you're lucky enough to have any left) with some cranberry sauce. Hope you enjoy it!"

ingredients

  • 1 loaf day-old white bread, torn into pieces

  • 1 -2 stalk celery, finely chopped

directions

  • Combine all ingredients and mix well (I use my hands).
  • Stuff both turkey openings (neck and rear end) of your turkey with stuffing and cover the stuffed openings with turkey skin (we use skewers to hold the skin in place). Don't be afraid to really press the stuffing in to make it all fit.
  • Bake turkey according to its package directions.
  • When turkey is done, remove stuffing to a separate bowl.
  • Refrigerate leftovers.

I am a 30-something married professional with a 3 year old daughter. My DH is a warehouse unloader for a large retailer. When I'm not working, I love doing anything that means spending time with my family, even if it's as mundane as grocery shopping. I also love to cook and try new recipes (poor DH . . .he's my resident guinea pig!!), watch TV (DH and I are both sports nuts), and cross stitch. I used to love to curl up with a good book (mystery novels), but my job involves so much reading, that I have really gotten away from reading for pleasure in the past few years. We have 2 dogs, an Australian Shepherd and a German Shepherd. Aside from that, we're your typical boring American family.
