  1. I thought this might be one of those recipes that sounds very strange but actually might be delicious, but I was wrong. They did not taste bad - just weird. Now I know why our local bakery does not sell them.

  2. Due to ingredients that I had on hand, I substituted allspice with a pinch of cloves & a heaping 1/2 tsp of cinnamon, sour milk with buttermilk, shortening with butter & yogurt with sour cream. It all worked, was a little wetter but most excellent.

  3. I had to cook a little longer but they are very good....

  4. These were great. They were soft and fluffy. I tweaked the spices a bit (I didn't have allspice on hand, sub. cinnamon), but I am thinking that these would be great as savory scones and am going to omit most of the sugar next time.

  5. These are good. I used a small glass and pressed out about 30 small scones (48 would really be itty bitty). These would be nice with a cinnamon-brown sugar dusting before baking or served with a cinnamon-brown sugar sauce (melted butter, cinnamon, sugar - all to taste). Yum!
