- 2 lbs ground beef (top round or sirloin)
- 1 lb ground veal
- 1 lb ground pork
- 1 cup cottage cheese
- 1 cup fresh breadcrumb
- 1 1⁄2 cups finely chopped onions
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup finely chopped green pepper
- 1⁄2 cup chili sauce
- salt, pepper to taste
- 1⁄2 cup red wine
- 1⁄2 cup tomato sauce
- 1⁄2 cup chili sauce
directions
- Heat oven to 400 degrees.
- Combine beef, veal and pork in large bowl; mix thoroughly.
- Add the cottage cheese, bread crumbs, onion, eggs, green pepper and 1/2 cup chili sauce.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Divide mixture in half and place into two 9-by-5-inch loaf pans.
- Pour 1/4 cup of the wine over each meatloaf.
- Mix the tomato sauce and 1/2 cup chili sauce in small bowl.
- Spread half of the mixture over each meatloaf.
- Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes, basting frequently with pan juices.
- Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees and bake another 50 to 60 minutes, until juices run clear.
