"New Orleans Fried Sandwich, My husband had this sandwich when visiting New Orleans. He found recipes, but was never able to duplicate. This recipe is a combination of 2 recipes that we have. He has told me this is almost the same as the New Orleans Sandwich."

  • Saute garlic, onion, oregano, black & green olives, artichoke hearts and pepper flakes in olive oil. Slice tops off bread, pull out soft part of bread, sprinkle with vinegar and oil. Put olive mixture in bottom of bread. Sprinkle with capers and layer with pepperonicnis, onion, tomato, ham, mortadella, salami and cheese. Put top back on bread. Pour oil in bottom of frying pan, set stuffed bread in pan, add weight to flatten bread. I use a plate and a teapot filled with water. Fry 5 min or until crust is golden, turn over and fry another 5 minute Serves 6.

  1. Just finished eating this! I love the artichokes and especially the red wine vinegar and Italian seasoning. I skipped the onions but used everything else. I cooked in very small amount of oil.
