Sauce
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 3 garlic cloves, diced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1⁄2 teaspoon oregano
- 1 bay leaf
- 1⁄4 teaspoon summer savory
- 1⁄4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons salt
- 1⁄8 teaspoon pepper
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 (28 ounce) can tomatoes
- 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
- 2⁄3 cup water

- 1⁄2 lb Italian sausage
- 1⁄2 lb lasagna noodle
- 1⁄2 lb ricotta cheese
- 1⁄3 cup parmesan cheese
- 3⁄8 lb mozzarella cheese

Sauce:
- In a large heavy skillet over medium heat, saute onions and garlic in olive oil stirring occasionally for 10 minutes.
- Add beef and saute 8-10 minutes until just pink.
- Stir in bay leaf, oregano, savory, nutmeg, salt, pepper, and brown sugar.
- Heat and stir 5 minutes.
- Reduce heat to low, stir in remaining ingredients and simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally for 1-1/2 hours.
- Cook lasagna noodles per instructions.
- Crumble sausage and saute 15-20 minutes over medium heat until cooked.
- Drain sausage.

Assembly:
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- In a 13x9x2 baking pan, spoon a thin layer of sauce.
- Arrange a single layer of lasagna noodles, a thin layer of sauce, sausage, ricotta, Parmesan, and mozzarella.
- Repeat layering until ingredients are used.
- Bake uncovered 35-45 minutes until lightly brown and bubbly.
